This worked right away, and I was able to upgrade to Fedora 38 from there. GDM can be installed with the gdm package, and is installed as part of the gnome group. The default desktop may be chosen from the DVD boot menu among GNOME, KDE. After half an hour of Googling and a dreadful realisation that I couldn't fix the issue without tinkering with GRUB, I decided it would be easier to just install the previous distribution, Fedora 37. This conflicts with distros (e.g., Fedora Linux), where grub version 2 is named grub2. Then I opted for "test installation media" which revealed that it was getting stuck at gdm.service. Each time, I encountered the Fedora logo followed by a blank screen. Issue: I'm not sure what causes this, but I've burned two separate USBs with identical F38 ISOs using both GNOME's "Write to USB" feature and the recommended Fedora Media Writer.
