![]() They'd be fine in addition, kinda organic flavor to the world akin to some of the stuff in RDR2, but every big city is basically completely vacuous as a result. How do they fuck up side quests like this. Relatedly, every 'puzzle' to get a skill book, an ingot, whatever boils down to the same shit of 'find key', find entrance, find breakable wall with basically no variation which is almost its own additional layer of pointless busywork. In Valhalla you're entirely at the whims of finding random books in random places to get these, and it damn well sucks, because you're back to needing to scour the map to get parity to the Odyssey experience and that sucks. Odyssey gave you everything up front so you from the early hours of the game start thinking about what you wanted to build towards or what abilities looked interesting. Why not just move all the skills to their own separate tree that you can unlock from, then keep the minor stat stuff its own thing, allowing the player to build in a certain way or just use the 'leave it to fate' button if they want just general stat improvement. ![]() Almost all nodes are meaningless stats, but these are bundled together with actually meaningful skills/passives that you might want in combat, and if you want to build in a certain way you need to spend too much time perusing this thoroughly shit interface and looking at faint lines to figure out the easiest way to get to where you want to go. It's like the cyberpunk one but shittier. (maybe) Caves feel a bit more varied and dungeon-like than Odyssey where they felt more copy-paste, but it's been a while. They added a surface level smattering of stealth options. (though valhalla still makes it look like you're doing something wrong with the skull icons etc.) ![]() It makes stats less relevant such that you can go through zones underleveled, meaning just doing the main content is more viable than Odyssey where you'd need to engage with some side content. There are two things Valhalla fixes from Odyssey: Finding some stuff to like about it, but holy shit how do you follow up Odyssey and then kinda fuck up everything that game got right. ![]()
